Which Option Should You Go With?
A frequently asked question of a locksmith, customers call about having their locks replaced. But this is not always the best course of action to take, and actually, a rekeying of the locks may be in order. That being said, it is often difficult for someone who is not trained in the field to understand why one would be better than the other. So, to keep our clients up to date, Joy Locksmith would like to help inform you which option is your better choice to go.
What is the Difference?
It is essential to know what the difference between the two options.
Rekeying – This is the process of changing out the inner locking components of your lock.
Replacing – This is quite self-explanative; you pretty much have the entire lock changed out for a new one.
When Should You Replace the Locks?
- A changing of style or aesthetic. You may see yourself wanting to redesign your home and therefore want your door handles and locks to match.
- The house utilizes different kinds of locks, and you are looking for a more uniform appearance for them. This will also allow for using a single set of keys.
- Your locks are old, and you want to make sure your home security is up to date.
When Do You Want to Rekey?
- When your locks are sturdy and reliable, but for one reason or another, you want to change the keys that work for your locks. This can be brought on because you have moved into a new house, you have lost a key, or someone has run out that you do not want to have access anymore.
- When you want to make sure a single key can open all of your house’s locks.
