Damaged or old locks are easier to get by and are a liability.
It is that time of the year, time to participate in some fun in the sun. Time for beach trips, vacations, and just lounging around the house. That being said, that does not mean that your odds of a home invasion have been lessened. In fact, many such breaking and entering occur during the summer, indicating that we are coming up on that time of the year that you may want to be the wariest. Here are some tips you may wish to consider making your household all the safer.
Lock it Up
Make sure all of your windows and doors are locked before leaving your house. Because of the higher rate of home break-ins during this time of the year, you can bet that your house has been or will be cased soon.
Back Yard
If you are in the backyard, lock all the doors and windows in the front of the house, even close the garage. Burglars are opportunistic and will jump at a quick job and can get into your home or garage and take valuable items in just seconds without noticing until it is too late.
Keep the Lights On
Light up the night with motion lights. The new LED lights are great, and there is an LED light that it is bright enough to light up enough of your yard to give them nowhere to hide. This will give your house a deterrent from potential burglars and even drive thieves from your neighborhood.
Going on Vacation
Going on vacation leaves your house uninhabited and makes for the ideal target for potential burglars. There are a couple of things you can do to make sure that you do not fall victim to such a thing.
- Do not advertise when you are going on vacation.
- Put your lights on a timed cycle, so they come on at night at certain times to make it look as though there are people in your house.
- Notify your police or sheriff’s department. They can put your home on a drive-by list.
Lock Condition
Make sure your locks are suitable and up to date. Damaged or old locks are easier to get by and are a liability.
